Pre-Op Instructions

Week Before Surgery
You will need to pre-register for your surgery at the designated surgical registration location. Be sure to bring all necessary paperwork with you when registering. Any required pre-op lab work will be completed at this time, and fasting is not required before your blood tests. The pre-op nurse from the hospital or facility will provide detailed instructions for the day of surgery. Do NOT take Aspirin, Vitamin E, or any blood thinners (refer to the attached list of medications to avoid) for one week prior to surgery, as they can increase bleeding risk. Bring all your home medications with you when pre-registering. The pre-op nurse will inform you about which medications are safe to take on the morning of surgery.

Day Before Surgery
Please be aware that the hospital or facility schedules surgeries and determines the order of cases, often based on patient age. You will be notified of your expected arrival time before surgery by the hospital or facility staff.

Evening Before Surgery
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK anything after midnight, including water, coffee, juice, chewing gum, medications, or breath mints. An outpatient nurse will call before your surgery date to confirm your arrival time and review any final instructions.

Important Reminders for Children
Remove all baby bottles from the crib the night before surgery, and inform family members that the child must not have anything by mouth after midnight. This ensures a safe and successful surgical experience the next day.

Cosmetic Surgery Post-Op Instructions

Swelling is a normal part of recovery after surgery, especially for facial procedures. The extent of swelling varies from person to person but is generally more noticeable in the face and along the jawline. Swelling may increase slightly after the first post-operative day and is often most visible in the morning after waking up. This is expected and not a cause for concern.

To help reduce swelling:

Stay upright by sitting, standing, and walking as much as possible after leaving the hospital. This can minimize swelling by improving circulation.

Avoid using your back when lifting heavy objects. Bend at your knees for at least a week after surgery to prevent strain and promote healing.
