Allergy Test Procedure
The allergy testing appointment typically takes between 1½ to 2 hours to complete.
There will be a waiting period between the application of the test and when the results can be read. To help pass the time, feel free to bring a book, magazine, or electronic device. You may have one adult (age 18 or older) accompany you during the appointment.
Testing is usually performed on the arms and back, and occasionally on the thighs. Please wear a short-sleeved or loose-fitting shirt that can easily roll up to the shoulders. If testing is done on your back, you will likely need to remove clothing from the waist up, though a gown will be provided for your comfort. In the less common case that testing is done on your thighs, we recommend wearing loose shorts that can be pulled up past the upper thighs.
You may also be asked to complete a pulmonary screening test, either onsite or at another location, to ensure you do not have a lung condition that could pose a risk during allergy testing.
Be sure to inform your physician if you have asthma, a history of asthma, any other respiratory condition, or if you use inhaled medications.
